App permissions: location, contacts, camera, microphone

What each permission is for, why location is needed, and how to turn one back on.

The app asks for a permission only when you use a feature that needs it, and tells you why first. It checks again every time, so if you turned one off, it shows a message with a button to allow it.

What each one is for

  • Location: needed once to finish setting up your page, because WEBWEB connects you with people near you. Later only when you set the area of an ask or your page, or share your location in a chat. Never in the background.
  • Contacts: only when you refer people on an ask or share a contact in a chat. Only the people you pick are shared; your phone book is never uploaded.
  • Microphone: only during calls. Calls are never recorded.
  • Camera: only when you take a photo or turn on video in a call.
  • Notifications: for messages, calls and replies to your asks.

Turn a permission back on

  1. When the app asks, tap Open Settings.
  2. Android: tap Permissions, pick the one you need, and choose Allow (for location: Allow only while using the app). iPhone: tap it and switch it on (for location: While Using the App).
  3. Come back to the app. It checks again and carries on by itself.

If location is switched off for the whole phone, the app shows Open location settings: turn Location on there.
